Why Is This Happening?iQOO Z11x vs Vivo T5x 5GPrice Difference: Why China is More ExpensiveWhat This Means for Buyers

Two phones from the same company, featuring the same chipset, the same battery, and the same display – yet there is a stark, night-and-day difference in price between the versions released in China and India. The iQOO Z11x was launched in China just a few days ago; there, it features a selfie camera of merely 8MP. In India, however, the exact same phone has been launched under the name Vivo T5x 5G, boasting a significantly superior 32MP selfie camera.

This is neither a mistake nor a technical glitch. It is a completely deliberate decision. You could view it as a major marketing strategy.

Why Is This Happening?

Given the price point at which the iQOO Z11x is being sold in China (approximately ₹27,300), the cost was kept down by opting for a lower-resolution selfie camera. However, Indian consumers place a much higher priority on selfies. Consequently, when the Vivo T5x 5G was launched in India, the selfie camera was significantly upgraded to cater to this specific market preference.

Until now, it was common for phones launched in China to be released in India at a slightly higher price point; however, this time around, the situation has been completely reversed.

The core specifications of both phones are nearly identical. Both feature a 7200mAh battery, a Dimensity 8500 processor, a 165Hz 1.5K OLED display, a 50MP main camera, and an IP68/IP69 rating. However, there is a major disparity regarding the selfie camera.

Price Difference: Why China is More Expensive

The price of the iQOO Z11x has been set higher in China because the company is able to maintain a larger profit margin in that market. Consumers there do not place as much emphasis on the selfie camera; consequently, the company has opted to downgrade the selfie camera specifications for that region.

However, competition in India is significantly more intense. Consumers here demand a comprehensive package – excellent selfies, robust battery life, and high-quality cameras – all rolled into one device. Therefore, the device was launched in India under the name Vivo T5x 5G, featuring a superior selfie camera while maintaining a lower price point. This strategy serves to attract Indian buyers more effectively and boosts sales volume. Furthermore, the presence of numerous assembly plants in India means that the company incurs lower taxes compared to direct imports, a factor that has enabled them to keep the retail price lower.

The company, fully cognizant of the market dynamics in China, has approached this matter strategically. In India, they endeavored to make the device more appealing by offering it at a slightly lower price point; conversely, they launched the very same phone albeit under a different name in China at a slightly higher price. In essence, this represents a dual strategy: on one hand, keeping the price low to maximize unit sales, and on the other, leveraging their deep understanding of the Chinese market.

What This Means for Buyers

For those contemplating importing a phone directly from China, this serves as a word of caution. If you purchase the iQOO Z11x from China, there is a distinct possibility that you will be disappointed with its selfie camera performance. Conversely, the version launched in India marketed as the Vivo T5x 5G. Offers a much more sensible proposition in terms of its selfie capabilities, pricing, and access to local after-sales service.

The Vivo T5x 5G was launched in India recently and is available in three distinct configurations. The lineup includes a base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, as well as a top-tier variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The price range for the phone falls between ₹18,999 and ₹22,999.
